Accessibility Statement
Last reviewed 2026-10-11. We want everyone to be able to ask Kingside Lab about their games, whatever device they use and however they read the screen.
Our target
We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We have not had the site audited by an outside tester, and we do not claim that it meets that standard in full. This page says what we have done and what we know is still missing.
What we have done
- Checked 22 pages at 11 screen sizes (four phone sizes including landscape, four iPad sizes and three desktop sizes) in October 2026, and fixed what we found: no page we checked scrolls sideways at any of those sizes.
- On touch screens, the links and buttons we checked are at least 44 by 44 pixels, including the footer links and the opening tree’s rows. A few links inside sentences are narrower.
- Text fields are 16 pixels on touch screens, so phones do not zoom the page when you type.
- A “Skip to content” link, and a visible focus ring on links, buttons and fields when you use a keyboard.
- Form fields have labels, and answers to a question are announced to screen readers as they arrive.
- Heat map cells, the playing-profile points and the ring-chart slices can be reached with the keyboard, and each reads out its value.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, the home page demo, counting-up numbers, chart animations and the automatic turning of Wrapped’s story cards stop.
- A light and a dark theme, and the page language is set for screen readers.
- This page, the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service can be read without JavaScript.
Known limitations
- Body text is 14 pixels across the site, smaller than we would like on phones. Your browser’s zoom makes it larger.
- Line charts (such as rating over time) tell a screen reader only the names of their lines, not each point.
- Wrapped’s story cards move on by themselves every 7 seconds and have no pause button yet. The chapter buttons and the arrow keys move between them, and they stay put if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Downloaded share images and GIFs are pictures with no text version; the same answer is on the page as text.
- Charts on the dashboard, Compare and Wrapped have not yet been checked with real data at every screen size, and the iPhone and iPad browser engine (WebKit) has been checked on only some pages.
- Most of the site (the dashboard, Ask, Compare, Wrapped and leagues) needs JavaScript.
- Pages we link to, such as chess.com, Google sign-in and the tip page, are run by others and outside our control.
